Give safety, housing, and hope to young people like Essie*
Donate today and help fund critical housing and domestic violence programs that truly change the trajectory for young people and young families in Brisbane.
"I was under the care of child safety when I met Jack*. His control over me began almost immediately.
"We had a baby together, and that's when I finally learned his real age – 49. By then, the relationship had become extremely violent. I was stuck, scared, and didn't know how to get out."
Meet Essie
But at 20 years of age, she faced an impossible choice: to stay in a violent and abusive home, or risk having no home at all.
Fearing for her life, she managed to escape with her toddler and baby in the backseat of her car. With nowhere safe to go, they were homeless.
It's a shocking choice that no one should ever have to make – especially someone so young.
But at Brisbane Youth Service, we know this is a choice that too many young women and girls are forced to make every day.
By choosing to give today, you can help create new futures for young people like Essie – ensuring they have somewhere safe to turn, and the skills and support they need to rebuild their lives.

How your generosity helps

Violence prevention
Young people who have left their homes to escape unsafe environments often don't know where to go or who to trust.
Your generosity can help fund the work of our Domestic and Family Violence Advocates – ensuring young people like Essie have tailored safety plans, along with skills to build a future free from violence.

A chance to heal
Children who experience violence or homelessness often feel scared, confused, and alone. It can be hard for them to trust others, focus in school, or understand their feelings.
Your gift can help fund in-house play therapy, supporting a child to express their thoughts and emotions through play. This helps them to feel safe, heal from trauma, and develop healthy relationships.

A safe home
Without safe and stable housing, young people and families cannot focus on healing, education, employment, or building a future.
Your support can provide emergency accommodation to a young person or family while we work to secure a stable home.
The housing crisis in Brisbane means young people like Essie have nowhere safe to go.
Right now, we’re seeing a concerning rise in high-risk domestic and family violence among young people. It’s one of the biggest drivers of youth homelessness.
And with no end in sight to the housing crisis in Brisbane, more and more young people are ending up with nowhere safe to go.
Instead, many are forced to couch surf, stay in motels, sleep in cars, or sleep on the streets – putting them at further risk of violence and abuse.
It’s a vicious cycle – which is why your donation today is so important.
Please give now to provide shelter, stability, and a chance to heal.
