Meagan's* story
Two nights in a car with a newborn baby – that's where Meagan's story begins.
After leaving an unsafe home, Meagan and her baby had nowhere to go.
Every passing vehicle made Meagan's heart race as she tried to keep her baby safe.
With no-one else to turn to, Meagan came to Brisbane Youth Service.
Within hours, she and her daughter were safe – and everything began to change.
"It felt like I had been walking past people all day and no one knew what was going on.
And then finally someone just looked at me and just knew."
The right support at the right time
When Meagan arrived, she wasn’t just given a room. She was seen, understood, and cared for.
Clean clothes. Nappies for her baby. A safe place to breathe.
From emergency accommodation, Meagan and her daughter soon moved into supported housing.
With the support of a dedicated youth worker, she began rebuilding stability and planning for the future.
Today, Meagan has a stable job and a permanent home. Her daughter is settled and thriving.
"I was able to build a life.
"My daughter's got a whole berry garden now. And she won't have to move around anymore."
What your generosity makes possible
Safety
Young people who have left their homes to escape unsafe environments often don't know where to go or who to trust.
Your gift can help provide immediate safety through crisis accommodation, safety planning, and urgent support when it matters most.
Support
Experiences of homelessness can leave young people feeling overwhelmed, isolated, and unable to move forward.
Your gift can help provide ongoing, trauma-informed support so young people can begin to heal, rebuild trust, and regain confidence.
Stability
Without stable housing, young people can't plan for the future or build independence.
Your gift can help create stable housing and long-term support, giving young people the foundation they need to rebuild their lives.
You can create a turning point for young people like Meagan.
Right now, many young people and young families across Brisbane are facing similar moments of uncertainty – unsure where they will sleep, or how they will keep their children safe.
Without support, many have no choice but to return to unsafe homes, or cycle through cars, couches, and crisis accommodation with no clear way forward.
But while a young person is still navigating this stage of life, there is a critical window to step in.
You can help provide a safe place to stay, essential supplies, and ongoing support from a youth worker – so a young person has the chance to move forward.
It means that when a young person walks through our doors with nowhere else to turn, someone is there to say: we see you, and we can help.
And it helps create something every young parent and child deserves – a safe place to grow.
