Every young Australian deserves a safe place to call home
A safe and suitable home supports our health, learning, and sense of belonging.
But for too many children and young people, that foundation is missing. Many don’t feel safe at home, and others don’t have a home at all.
Youth Homelessness Matters Day on 15 April is a time to come together and call for better support for young people.
15 April 2026
With early support, young people can move from crisis to stability, creating positive ripple effects in their lives and our community
Imagine Suncorp Stadium, nearly full.
Now imagine that crowd is made up of children and young people with nowhere to call home.
Across Australia, nearly 43,000 children and young people seek homelessness support on their own each year – and almost one in two who need crisis accommodation can’t get a bed.
Here in Brisbane, demand is rising too. Last year, Brisbane Youth Service delivered 21% more occasions of support, reflecting growing pressure in our community.
Will you stand with Brisbane’s young people and show that youth homelessness matters to you?
Youth homelessness isn’t always visible
For many young people, it’s shaped by uncertainty, fear, and a lack of control over daily life.
Experiencing homelessness as a young person can look like ...
Fleeing a home that isn't safe
Couch surfing, living with constant uncertainty
Sleeping on the streets, never fully resting
Carrying everything you own, unsure if you'll get a bed tonight
How you can help end youth homelessness
- A mix of safe, appropriate housing options.
- Wraparound support that strengthens health, healing, and wellbeing.
- Early support that helps young people stay connected to family, school, culture, and community.
- Support for young parents that creates safer futures for their children.

Sometimes I catch myself reverting to my routine when I was in survival mode ... So, I guess I’m still dealing with the impact from all I’ve been through ... But recently, I’ve just stayed at home. Because I can. That’s where the freedom starts. It took this long to get here. To get to a point where I feel like I can breathe.
