Transforming your generosity into impact
Why we need you
Young people experience the highest rates of homelessness in the state and are being disproportionately impacted by the ongoing housing crisis. This is compounded by having limited access to resources, being a low priority for any available accommodation, and facing a significant shortfall in social housing.
Early intervention is crucial; it helps young people avoid slipping into a lifetime of homelessness. By providing timely support, we can set them on a path toward stability and brighter futures.
Our resources are stretched, but with your support we can continue to help the growing number of young people coming to our doors seeking help.
How your contribution helps
Your support helps ensure that Brisbane Youth Service can provide wraparound supports to keep young people, and their children, safe in their time of need.
Emergency food and accommodation
Sometimes young people only need some food supplies from our pantry and emergency accommodation while they work out their next steps.
We help them access crisis accommodation, including termporary supported housing we operate. We also work with young people who might be struggling to find or maintain a tenancy.
After suport from BYS, there is a 95% decrease in young people living in unsafe housing.
Specialist domestic and family violence supports
Family violence and intimate partner violence are leading causes of homelessness for young people in Australia.
73% of the young people we meet have experienced family violence.
Our Young Women, Families and Safe Relationships program provides specialist DFV supports to break the cycle of violence.
Young people in a crisis or serious violence situation drops by half after support.
Physical and Mental healthcare
For a young person experiencing homelessness, continuinity of healthcare can be a real barrier to addressing mental and physical health concerns.
We provide a free, onsite medical clinic and a team of practitioners who provide support around primary health, mental health, alcohol and other drugs and psycho-social needs for vulnerable young people.
Young people report a 71% improvement in their mental health after support.

With the help from BYS, I was able to move on in life as they helped me build the foundation to get me started in life. As a single mother with a 3 year old child, I now have a very secure job which I’ve had for almost 2.5 years, I secured private rental housing and I have a stable income.
